How Much Do Music Lessons Cost in Bloomington, Indiana?

If you're looking for piano, guitar or voice lessons in Bloomington, Indiana, one of the first questions is price. Here's a clear breakdown of what lessons cost at The Davis Academy of Music, what's included, and how to compare your options.

Our lesson prices

Private music lessons at The Davis Academy of Music cost $180–$340 per month, depending on lesson length. Every lesson is private and one-on-one with a coach, for kids, teens and adults.

What's included

  • Private, individualized coaching in piano, voice, guitar, ukulele, violin, viola, cello, drums, winds and more

  • A free online account to manage your schedule, pay for lessons and see your coach's notes

  • A student concert every semester, in December and May

  • Davis Dollars earned for every practice, plus a semester practice leaderboard with prizes

  • 8 challenges, from learning every note on the staff to writing your own song

  • A level-based Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) curriculum for piano students

How lessons compare to other activities

Many youth activities cost far more per year and are taught in groups. Private music lessons give your child individual attention, a performance opportunity every semester, and a skill that lasts a lifetime.

What to look for when comparing music lessons

  1. Private vs. group: private lessons move at the student's pace.

  2. Teacher training: our coaches are led by Dr. Craig Michael Davis, who holds a doctorate in composition from the IU Jacobs School of Music.

  3. Performance opportunities: ask how often students perform.

  4. Motivation: look for a system that keeps students practicing between lessons.

  5. Reputation: The Davis Academy of Music was voted #1 Music Lessons in Bloomington in the Best of Bloomington / Herald-Times Community Votes in 2024 and 2025.

Craig Davis
MUSIC for MILLIONS The Craig Michael Davis Ensemble is New York based new-music-ensemble dedicated to commissioning new works and educating audiences to the advancement of Contemporary Classical Music (music of our time). The potency of this ensemble comes from the uniqueness and diversity of each of its members who travel the world advancing the latest in classical music. Since 2009, The Craig Michael Davis Ensemble has curated music from David Lang, Louis Andriessen, Terry Riley, Kyle Gann, Lloyd Rodgers, and Frederic Rzewski. As an outreach extension, we have partnered with schools in East New York to provide music to at-risk and low-income students. ‘J.H.S 292’ and the ‘Good Shepherd After School Program’ are two of these schools that we are already partnering with that serve hundreds of students that lack music education and performance enrichment opportunities. Therefore, the objective of the Craig Michael Davis Ensemble is to help 250 at risk students to value and appreciate Contemporary Classical Music (music written by living composers) through ‘hands-on’ and ‘live concert going’ experiences. The Craig Michael Davis Ensemble accomplishes this, by organizing music events; renting concert halls; partnering with musicians, sound technicians, and stage crews; and bringing low income or at risk children to these educational events at no cost!
